For the last couple of years, computer security companies like
Symantec, makers of Norton Antivirus, have offered free online computer security services. These free online services allow computer users to scan their machines for: viruses, holes in their firewalls, spam, etc. The free online services only scan, detect, and remove the problems when you run the online scanner. The tools do not provide continous protection. For continuous protection, you must purchase and install the software on your computer. Microsoft has just launch their own version of these online tools called
Windows Safety Live. The service is, currently, in beta and is open to the public free of charge.
Windows Safety Live offers:
- detection and removal of viruses.
- tools for improving computer system performance.
- tools to detect and remove unwanted files.
- information on the top Internet threats.
- access to (usually free) software downloads to enhance PC security.
- access to support forums, tips, articles, and FAQs.
If you are concerned around the issue computer security in your home or office, point your browser to the
Windows Safety Live and try out this freebie. It may well be worth the effort!
